The Scottish Civic Trust has over 40 years' experience of
working in conservation and planning. The Trust can offer
exceptional knowledge and assessment skills in relation to
conservation areas and historic buildings. For 20 years, on behalf
of Historic Scotland, we operated the Buildings at Risk Register in
Scotland. Through our core activities and nationwide network of
local civic societies and conservation groups, we act as a driving
force for effective local historic environment advocacy. We put
public consultation and community participation at the heart of all
our work and place particular importance on its wider benefit to
the planning process.

EXPERIENCE
In recent years the Trust has undertaken and successfully
provided heritage consultancy work for local authorities across
Scotland. These include:
East Renfrewshire Council | In 2008/09 the
Scottish Civic Trust carried out four conservation area appraisals
for Upper and Lower Whitecraigs, Eaglesham and Giffnock plus a
townscape audit for Eaglesham identifying sensitive areas and areas
for development.
Shetland Islands Council | The Trust carried
out appraisals of all three of the conservation areas in the
Shetland Isles: Lerwick Lanes, Lerwick New Town and Scalloway.
Argyll and Bute Council | The Trust carried out
a boundary review for Inveraray Conservation Area in 2010, followed
by a conservation area appraisal in 2011. This work helped to
support bids for funding and Inveraray was awarded £970,000 of
Historic Scotland funding for a Conservation Area Regeneration
Scheme in January 2013.
The Moray Council | In Autumn 2010 the Trust
was engaged to produce a conservation area appraisal and action
plan for the new town of Keith, to support The Moray Council's bid
for heritage-led regeneration funding. A Conservation Area
Regeneration Scheme, funded by Historic Scotland, was launched in
August 2012.
"We were delighted with the work done by the Scottish Civic
Trust at Keith. We found the staff to be dedicated and
enthusiastic. The report that was produced by SCT helped us to go on
to secure substantial funding for our conservation project in
Keith."- Alan Macbeth, Development Officer, Moray Council
The Trust has since worked with Andrew PK Wright, chartered
architect and heritage consultant on appraisal work in Elgin (2011)
and Forres (2013) for Moray Council. The work carried out in Elgin
supported a bid for CARS funding and the town was awarded £750,000
by Historic Scotland in January 2013.
