The Trust is involved in the public consultation on a new
Architecture and Placemaking Policy for Scotland, which was
launched in May by Fiona Hyslop, Cabinet Secretary for Culture
and External Affairs at an International Design Summit. The
policy review aims to set out a vision and strategic aims for the
development of the built environment in Scotland. Four key themes
have been identified as a starting point for discussion:
- Supporting sustainable economic growth
- Shaping Scotland's future
- Embedding built environment design into wider policy agendas
and ensuring public and private sector buy-in
- Recognising the cultural value of architecture, urbanism and
heritage
Responding to previous consultations on architecture policy this
document places a greater emphasis on 'placemaking' - a concept at
the heart of the work of the Trust and its network of affiliated
groups.
12 questions are posed, related to the four themes. Scotland's
network of civic and amenity groups play a vital role in
championing good design, placemaking and heritage at a local level
and SCT would encourage all groups that are able to respond to the
consultation.
The consultation documents are available here: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2012/05/8766
The consultation is open until 7 September
2012.
Completed questionnaires should be emailed to: architecture@scotland.gsi.gov.uk
