The Scottish Civic Trust, one of Scotland’s leading heritage and built environment organisations, is seeking an inspiring and dynamic individual to become our next Chair of our Board of Trustees.
The Scottish Civic Trust is dedicated to protecting and enhancing Scotland’s built heritage and promoting its significance to communities across the nation. We aim to inspire public interest and involvement in the conservation of our historic environment.
The Chair will play a critical leadership role in shaping the strategic direction of the Scottish Civic Trust, ensuring effective governance, and championing the Trust’s mission. As Chair, you will provide guidance to the Board of Trustees and the team of staff.
The Trust is currently working to refresh our Strategic Plan (2019-2024), which focusses on the headings of “celebrate”, “take action” and “advocate”. We expect that our next Chair will build on recent achievements of the Trust, whilst remaining alert to new opportunities for the Trust to provide leadership and support through what may prove to be a period of broader societal change and challenges within the heritage and built environment sectors. In particular, the Chair will be open to opportunities for the Trust to diversify its funding base and support the ongoing steps being taken to strengthen its profile and relevance.
The ideal candidate will have proven leadership experience, excellent communication skills and ideally a passion or affinity for Scotland’s built heritage. They will be committed to good governance, capable of strategic thinking, and ready to inspire and support the Trust’s work across Scotland.
This is a voluntary position with an expected commitment of no more than a day or two per month. The role is unremunerated but we can cover travel costs and other out-of-pocket expenses.
Closing date for applications: 18 October 2024.
